Republic, Islamism among Iranians centuries-old

TEHRAN, Mar. 31 (MNA) – The first winner of Feb. 26 Parl. elections in Tehran Mohammad Reza Aref issued a statement on the occasion of the Islamic Republic National Day.

"It is centuries that Iranians have chosen Islam as a pure truth as their religion," reads part of the message issued by Mohammad Reza Aref, who heads Omid Iranian Foundation and was the First-VP of President Mohammad Khatami.

Saying that Islam and republic date back to before the decision made in 1979, Aref stressed that the fate of the Islamic Republic of Iran hinges on the satisfaction of the nation.

"Iranians determinedly said yes to the Islamic Republic in March 1979 as an affirmation for what existed among Iranians for many years," reassured the head of Omid Iranian Foundation in his message.
